i've run sites with 500K users and no problems... the main issue is having mysql tuned properly... (mysqltuner.pl for the win, Alex!) wider (ie: lots of fields) tables isn't an issue, if you have your sql engine done right.. that's what indices are

I've seen this bug as well. It appears that the XML is not being returned for some images. I believe this might be caused for me by the user putting a "ú" in the image description. Either the data needs to be HTML encoded before it goes int

How large of an image are you trying to upload? At this point you're reaching the memory limit imposed by the memory_limit setting in php.ini. The only way to adjust this one would be to edit the php.ini file and up that setting.
