#102580 - 10/28/00 04:31 AM Maybe someone can help me. Big problem.

I have a feeling this doesn't have to do with UBB itself, but with my server. The problem is that the server is an affiliate of another server, which I have no information on. I called up tech support, and asked why none of the cgi commands were executing. The guy actually told me that he couldn't help me, and made up some bs excuse about not being able to give phone support to people that were on my plan. Ha. He had no idea what to do.

Maybe someone here will. I know what the problem is: that none of the cgi files will execute. I upload them to the cgi-bin directory and they act as if they're not there. I get the 500 error. I followed all the instsructions, and they act as if they're not there. This is why I am pretty sure the problem is my server, and not how I installed the board.

Can someone be nice, and help me figure out what my servers problem is? Or at least tell me how to figure out my servers problem, so I can work with it? I have no way of knowing how their cgi works. In fact, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cgi. If someone else isn't, please help me. I don't want to be forced to install this whole board on a friends server. I want it on my own. I'm getting pretty angry. Thanks.

Please post the URL to your cp.html and your board's version number. In addition, please post a URL to your web hosts' web page so we can look at their FAQ's. I'd also add that based on your host's response to your question, now might be a good time to think about a new host

[URL removed pending confirmation of licesne ownership per forum policy on installation of older versions of UBB --mark]

version 538

They don't have a faq. They're an affiliate of reliablehosting.com. I don't think reliablehosting has a faq either.

Why are you installing version 5.38 when the latest version is 5.47a?

Per this forum's policy, we cannot help with non-current version installations.

I purchased it for my old domain, and still had it on my hard drive. My old domain is gone now, so I decided to install it on my new one. I saw it as pointless to purcahse an updated copy.

You can't help me because of a forum policiy? That's kind of stupid, no?

Hi Rach!

I am going to read the forum policy, i haven't yet done so. I think what he means is that they made a policy about older versions because things change so rapidly online and in technology that they are constantly improving their scripts and things so if you have an older version it could take longer to figure out what's wrong.
Boy that was a nice run-on sentence, wasn't it?

I am sure it's not personal and they'd like to help you but since this is free, it isn't worth it unless they have some limits. Why not install the latest version and then they can assist you?

Rach, what polexia says is pretty much true. The version you have is pretty buggy and has some serious security holes in it.

Most all of us helping out here are users like yourself (ie. don't work for Infopop) and just do it on a volunteer basis. We generally don't have the time to know the ins and outs of the various versions and their peculiarities. As such, we stay up on the newer versions, and let Infopop directly handle problems with older versions.

You CAN still get assistance on your version of UBB, but you'll have to do it directly with Infopop. Click here and select Installation Problems from the dropdown list. Please have your license number and password handy as that information is requested as part of the support request.
