#107945 - 08/20/00 02:52 PM Banner rotator on my UBB

I have a CGI banner rotator program, and it uses SSI calls on HTML pages to place the banners in.

I'm pretty new to all this, but I heard somewhere that any page with SSI calls has to have a .SHTML extension, rather than simply .HTML/.HTM. Is this correct? If so, is there a way to make the UBB thread files have .SHTML extensions rather than .HTML, so I can have my banners rotated on my UBB as well as the rest of my site?

If that is not possible, does someone know of another banner rotator program that doesn't use SSI calls, that *will* work with UBB? Thanks so much!

Thank you.

You can use the ubbrandomx and ubbrandomy feature. It has been documented here

ok, so that post is supposed to document UBBRandomX and UBBRandomY, but it doesn't really document them.

I'm using a third party ad server that requires the use of a TIMESTAMP so that the random numbers in the HREF and IMG SRC tags are the same.... any way to do this?

Thanks

Just code the HTML for the banners as supplied by your banner site.

Where you want the same random number to be substituted, code UBBRandomX

When placed in the control panel header or footer fields, that string will be changed to a random value (the same for all occurences of UBBRandomX).

Another way that I now prefer to use is to code some Javascript to generate the banner HTML including a random value.
