I just upgraded to 6.5, and when I was changing my displayed name.. it told me my username was too long, that user names could only be 250 characters long and mine was 450 characters long.

For starters, the username I wanted to change it to was: "zêß®å p®ïñt ßõxꮧ" Which is obviously not 450 characters long.

Then, when I gave up, I noticed that it said: "» Hello, zêß®å p®ïñt ßõxꮧ" at the top, and yet all my posts and my name in my profile was the same as it was before I attempted to change it.

Then, I tried changing my name to something else that worked before I upgraded. And it gave me the same character error.

Now, when I try to change my name to any of the other names I've used before it says: "The login or public display name that you are trying to use has been reserved by an existing member. Please select another."

When clearly, nobody is using any of those names.

da angelic, to free up those other names simply rebuild the members stat files.

High bit characters count as more letters because its converted to ANSI text if IIRC. It's really not recommend a user name like that be used. It appeared on the welcome line because the new name is set in your cookie right away.

Jimbo, if you don't have anything constructive to offer, don't post it at all.
