The resource center does not seem to be taking off, at least I do not find the things I need.
I suggest: create a copy treads (instead of move threads) function.
Then have some knowledgeable person like Eileen copy all the interesting threads that have hacks or important solutions to the "IMPORTANT HACKS" Board.
This is very little work, as nobody has to reformulate and clean the hacks.
Alternatively, instead of copying, a list of links could be made. Moving the threads is not a good idea, they will be missing in their original position.

hehe... one of the reasons the Resource Center isn't taking off is because Eileen doesn't like using it! If Rick could only turn off attachments in that forum... I do understand your point mario, but I think that it would be better to keep all downloadable code in one organized download area... (I know that is what you are proposing, but it would be like reinventing the wheel... we've already got the resource center... just need to use it...) If eileen had to move all the good code hacks into one forum, I think that would be more work than for here to enter it into the resource center...?
Not a bad idea about the copy threads, but I think the Resource Center could become pretty useful if someone took to moving the hacks into there instead... I don't know, I've always been one for a separate download area... it keeps the discussion area more clean...
Again, I think the 'copy thread' idea is great... it could be used to populate a 'Hot Threads' forum, a synopsis of good discussions around your site...

Yes, Mario does make a good point on the resource center not taking off, but it really is the best way to handle it. The main reason is this. File attachements on forums are available to anyone, so if someone does a large hack that involves alot of files then somebody could download a large portion of the program.
The Resource Center is password protected to registered users only. But your access to this area will never expire. Say you don't purchase an extra year of upgrades so you can't get into the download area after your first year, you will still be able to get into the Resource Center because this has been setup for users to help eachother out.
So, hopefully the Resource Center will continue to grow, even if I have to go through and add some of the hacks in there myself;).

Hey guys, it's not that I don't like the idea of a Resource Center (I'm actually all in favor); it's just that this particular implementation doesn't work for me. It seems to very buggy. I can never find my way around it and searches don't bring up all the available files. I hate all the 'hot' this and 'top' that stuff. Gimme something clean, simple and efficient and I'll use it like a shot.

Sorry guys, the Resource Center just doesn't, if you'll excuse the pun, hack it. I've been trying to be a good girl and upload my latest but it blows me out every time with spurious errors such as:
There were the following errors trying to add your resource:
Invalid characters in filename 'PM-Notify-and-NewsFlash-hacks.zip'. Please use letters, numbers and dashes only.
Duh? ...and have you ever tried retrieving anything from there?

User-friendliness is always a good thing... Do you, (or anyone else), know of any different software that is flexible and still user-friendly? Or, is there a way to customize what's already there to make it better...?
I've never used that type of setup before, but I'm sure there's got to be something...

The way everybody was raving on about this Links program I was expecting great things but I'd settle for it working "as advertized". Where's Phoenix? Isn't she the expert?

Eileen,
I second that. I think the resource center is simply too difficult. I don't know why some contributions are defined as "Hot" or "Top". I would rather like to see all hacks and contributions simply categorized and sorted by topics.

we have a good software that we know, wwwthreads. So suddenly a strange unknown, hard to navigate, hard to understand and hard to use software gets added.
You can have board only for members, is there any problem? WWWtreads is set up to have boards that are only visible to members of certain groups.
It is just easiest to move entire threads to a board, whoever wants to use the hack can see the entire threads and comments

Well, the way I understand this the problem is that people wanted a place where they can post parts of the script - doing this in public is not really a good idea because it makes it easy for the competition . Using Links with a protected directory makes sense - but Links could have some of the fat cut for easier use, agreed - we don't need 'Hot' etc. here. Using our familiar WWWThreads would be one alternative - but poor Scream would have to manually select the authorized users, right? After all, we would need a "licensed users only" area to prevent software theft.

I have to do some stuff late sat-night that will be fairly boring (watching large programs run...)... maybe I'll try to trim down the 'fat' a little bit...
When I get it all ready, I'll let rick take a look-see... if it gets his okay, maybe we can slick things up some...

so how does he protect access so far?? I thought that the wwwthreads whiz would use wwwthreads for this purpose anyway
Apacha auth_dbi would use a database to do htaccess authentication using the database (anyone hacked this already?? if not, I will some day)
Then the same feature could be used for the access for the special authorized paying user's board
If the list of paying members is somewhere else, I am sure someone can hack a perl program that reads all members off that list and enters them inte a group called paying_members
