Hi,
the on of the weak points of the forum is the user pictures.
A feature which functionality lies to a great extend in the hands of the users themselfes... (size, and URL)....

On my board i more and more see dear links to user pictures, if they removed their pic from its lofation later.

Whatever the reason is, broken linke always give a bad impression on the forum look...

There should be ana admin tool that scans to old messages and detects and deletes URLs to non existend pics from time to time.

Alternative way:
Or the system should be changed, although uploads in general are prohibited, the user should be able to upload his pic to a certain destination. The admin can then check the pic and set the url.
If the user wants to kill the pic later, the admin can replace it simply with a transparent gif....

Good idea?

I just see, the 5.3 php ist still messing with my properly set paragraphs.... I just wonder why it works on MY forum... I use 5.1.6. php still and use the same equipment: MAC IE 5.....
Another observation, once edited, the paragraphs display ok, see here.
Greetings

Posted this again in a readable format (Ommiting the preview, that destroys the paragraphs....) This suggestion is to important for me:

Workaround

-------------

For now I probably hack that, make the Pic-URL field not enterable and set the LANGUAGE to: "Please mail your pic to the admin, he will set it up for you".

Wouldn't the simplest idea be to simply store the picture in the user table itself?

The user simply (as now) set up a URL to where the picture can be found. But then when the changes are saved, wwwthreads goes out and fetches the image from that location and store it directly into the user table, perhaps after moderator or administrator approval. This way the image is always there for display, and the preferences dialog could include a button to remove the image.

Anyone?

I would prefer it to be downloaded into a folder
(sometimes me as Admin would want to better the quality or reduce the size or simply optimize it, since some users are not so firm with those web things.)

Appart from that:
Yery good solution... Hope that this will be noticed [Smile]

Interesting.... I looked in the PHP HACK resource center, and only found one single, but different, hack....

Also I would prefer not to have too many features as a hack.

Updates get very difficult, as you probably experienced yourself [Smile]

this shouldn't be very hard, when i get back from vacation i will try and whip up an upload field, so the user can upload there image onto your server. my host is having problems and when my host is down i come here and see my broken picture. i was also going to try and make it so users can choose from a list of avatars if they don't have an image or what not. when i get back from vacation...

Couldn't the system check to see if its a valid picture? Like if the file size is -1 then there is no picture so omit the <img> tags.
