#132608 - 01/27/00 07:58 PM Daily Archive/Digest Emails

The daily emails of new postings would be better if a summary of the contents was at the start of the email which simply lists the contents by the subject line. This way a reader can scan through a list and see if any items interest them.

In addition, when someone first signs up to a board's daily email list are all the historic mails sent with the first one? It would be better if the administrator (or the user) could set a limit (for example, the last 20 posts) for their first digest.

I think I have found the solution to the first suggestion (I can't test it yet because I need to configure the script further for my VServer!)...

Below the section that sarts with:
# ------------------------------------------------------
# Only send out an email if there are posts for the day
if($postrows > 0){

Insert ...
# --------------------------------------------------------
# Now we cycle through the posts and append to the headers
my ($Number,$PPosted,$PUsername,$PIP,$PSubject,$PBody);
for (my $l =0; $l < $postrows; $l ) {
($Number,$PPosted,$PUsername,$PIP,$PSubject,$PBody) = $stk -> fetchrow_array;
$message = $message . "$lang{'SUBJECT_TEXT'}:\n";
$message = $message . " - $PSubject\n";
}
$message = $message . "\n";
$message = $message . "$seperator$seperator\n";

And then continue with ...
# --------------------------------------------------------
# Now we cycle through the posts and append to the message

This should work!
