I have no idea how it would be done, but could we please allow our users to put other users on "ignore"? This would allow them to still see that the ignored person posted, but perhaps it would just be given the tag "ignored" in the post.

I've noticed users tend to create their own little quirks between one another and instead of havinf flame wars disrupt the boards, I would rather allow them an ignore feature.

This has been much requested on my board.... and I'd have used it myself thanks to a Psycho on my board this last week.

I got into a posting war and finally banned him. But banning them sometimes just makes them want to come back as another user etc....

Banning isn't a perfect science.

An ignore feature would be very cool!!!

This would make for a nice feature but not quite sure how to pull it off. The main question is what happens in threaded mode. If you are ignoring a user where you don't see their posts do you not see the replies to their posts? If that's the case then it wouldn't be too bad.

Or as was suggested, if ignored, the body of the message says "POST IGNORED"?

The latter seems easiest and wouldn't break threaded mode. But you'd still see replies. I don't know if I'd like it blocking replies... as people don't always reply to the right person.

Of course, users could quote a message (with the new quote feature) in a reply.

An alternative.. which would be cool, and is a feature that I think Open Topic here offers is a "Private Moderation" feature.

Where the admin (or mod) can place them in private moderation.... and someone can post away. But only they (and admins or mods) see the posts. Thus the troll just thinks that everyone is ignoring them and moves on.

That might be easier.
I've been thinking of hacking that... but I'm not sure if it's above my abilities. For now it probably is.

Either way, it's good to see lots of feedback on the various ways this stuff could be used.

Create a "Banned" group. Create forum(s) that only members of the "Banned" group can see, and set all other forums to no access for the "Banned" group. Then let all of the (L)users who you've banned get together and flame each other on their own private forum.

I would be happy if the post existed, but in the body (you know, that part where the text goes ) just have it say "Post Ignored As Per Your Request" or something similar.

My support subscription is about to run out but let me tell you (and this is no lie or an attempt to sway UBB) I would resubscribe in a split second if it meant getting this feature!!
