*LOL* [Smile] That's right, he should know if it's feasible. I know it can be done and I could do it, but it makes more sense to check with him first to see if the extra load would be significant or not.

This would definitely be possible and wouldn't create any extra load, since we would just pull the info when displaying the post along with everything else. Great idea guys, of course MattyJ will be a bit disappointed but hopefully he will get over it. I will get this in for the next release, along with a conversion script that will work through all of the old posts to populate the new field.

That's a great idea. Since you can't search on Message#, there's really nothing in its favor other than expedience. I'm sure Matt, like me, is only concerned with the best solution, not who thought of it, and will be as eager to adopt this alternative as I am.

P.S. Next time you have a brilliant idea, speak up sooner and save us all a lot of brain damage. [Wink]

Actually, that solution doesn't bother me... [Smile] I'm working on a different script where I'll have to be making some changes to the actual subject line that gets stored in the database... The changes we've been talking about here are really only cosmetic... so there's no conflict. [Cool]

Anyway, sounds like a good way to go... an eileen, I couldn't live using threaded mode... [Wink] I stick only to flat... isn't variety wonderful? I love that we have the choice to see things how we want. [Smile]

Later!

Matt

It sounds like a great step forward.
Eileen, we may convert you to a flat mode user yet! [Smile]

Remember I'm on an opposite timezone to you guys and when I log on to check out the discussion of a morning some things have already been signed sealed and delivered. [Cool] I don't think the message number concept was even in existence when I went to bed the night before. [Wink]

And Eileen made up the 'Frame' type lay out over at WOPR. I use the 'Collapsed threads' in the left pane and the 'Flat mode' in the right pane. It works real well, even though, Eileen hates it,the combination of the two is real neat. And one can see where they are within the grouping.
