#149454 - 02/01/01 05:09 AM "flock() unimplemented on this platform"?
Anonymous
Unregistered

Using WindowsMe, PWS and ActiveState Perl (ActivePerl-5.6.0.623-MSWin32-x86-multi-thread.msi)

Just tried to upgrade to 6 on my PWS and the ubb6_test.cgi ran fine.

ubb_upgrade.cgi then ran fine.

when I attemted to go to cp.cgi I got the following error.

CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:

flock() unimplemented on this platform at C:Inetpubwwwroots9cgi-bin/ubb_lib.cgi line 243.

Do I need to upgrade my perl? If so how/where?

thanks,
jeremiah

No, you need to upgrade the OS. flock works only on Windows NT or Windows 2000 and not Windows 9x/ME.

Thanks for the response Philipp.

I have Win 2k on cd I'll give it a go in a couple days after I do a little cleaning up on my machine.

The server I use to host my sites are Apache but I have been playing around with PWS to mod my old boards and test before I upload them.

If anyone else is trying to do this you may wish to look at this thread -> http://www.scriptkeeper.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=001214

Got it running on WinMe.

Had to update 3 flock references in ubb_lib.cgi to the evaluate pattern in the above link.

just thought I'd share. I don't suggest moving from flock if this is going to be a live/production board nor do I recommend using 9x/Me. I am just using this for testing.

Good point -- a good testing technique if you are doing this on Win95/98/Me is to comment out all the flock() calls with a #

Don't forget to put the flocks back in afterwards
