Have you read this thread?

http://community.infopop.net/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=729094322&f=3913070413&m=1643073923

Is there any chance you could lend some of your expertise? Let me breifly explain the problem.

Upgraded board to 6.1.0.2 and all worked fine.

Added the Who's Online and Avatar hacks from Qasic, which worked fine. When I added the Custom Titles/Ranks hack (and I used Qasic's auto installer to do them), it caused my board to immediately lose track of any users. I couldn't log into the control panel or do anything because it didn't recognize me.

I told InfoPop about the problem and they suggested I delete all the *.cgi files in the CGI-BIN and start with fresh copies. I was fine with that except that it didn't work. Now I want to go back to just a standard copy of UBB without any hacks but when I try and set the paths in initial setup of cp.cgi, it just goes in an endless loop, never allowing me to get to the login.

I think that if that is fixed I will still not be able to log in because even though the member files are in tact, it still wont' recognize me.

What is your (or anyone else's) opinon?

My opinion?

If you ever hack your board again, I will hurt you.

Okay... first off, whoever told you to nuke the .cgi files is probably right on.

Delete the cp_* files, the ubb_* files, the vars_* files, cp.cgi and ultimatebb.cgi.

Delete your Templates directory.

Delete anything in your Members directory that isn't a directory or a file ending in .cgi.

Make a clean, fresh, new install straight from the 6.1.0.2 zip file.

Make sure the Members directory has the member_test.cgi file and the last_number.cgi file.

Make sure all the files that the zip has in the noncgi directory really are there.

That should avoid the cp.cgi login loop.

[/QUOTE]Hey, I don't see a member_test.cgi file in the members directory. Would that be causing the problem with the loop? Otherwise I did what you said to no avail.

Also, there are a CRAP LOAD of cache-******* directories in there that I think I should just delete.

Any other ideas? Thanks for the help.

And if I install another hack that burns my board, may you be the first one to hurt me!

member_test *HAS* to be there.

Upload it from the zip file and try again./

It didn't work

I am VERY VERY VERY frustrated. This should have been easy to fix: wiping out the old files should have cured the problem.

I am still stuck in the cp.cgi loop. If you want to see for yourself, let me know and I will email you the info you need. booking@creeping-death.net. />

OKay, I'm going to look at your ticket in a few seconds to figure out EXACTLY what the control panel is choking on.

Turned out to be exactly what I thought - your Perl install was not done properly, so Perl didn't know where to find vars_config.

No vars_config -> UBB slips into setup mode.

Upgrading is going to be a slight PITA for you in the future, as you'll need to edit cp.cgi and ultimatebb.cgi each time you upgrade... until your host fixes their Perl.

Aaaanyway.

As I said, if you hack your board again, Dave'll do the same thing he did this time... put every file in your cgi-bin into a directory called "thisdoesntbelong".

Case closed.

Thanks Charles for helping Brian with this issue.

I would like to better understand (cuz I'm not a developer) and maybe it would be valuable to others to understand.

What do you mean by a proper Perl install?

It sounds like a continuing problem with the way the host has Perl installed, is that correct?

And, how does someone figure out before they install a UBB if Perl is installed correctly?

We can move this discussion elsewhere if you would like -
