#161344 - 04/12/03 03:54 AM Upgrade from 6.3 to 6.5, and now no e-mail send - help

This topic was discussed somewhat in this thread, but it was closed, so I started a new one.

http://community.infopop.net/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=729094322&f=3913070413&m=3693050806

After getting the upgrade from 6.3.1.1 to 6.5 to work correctly (thanks Brett), I was presented with an entirely new dilemma, in that none of the boards send e-mail functions will work properly now. When a new user registers and the board goes to e-mail them their password, or when the private message function is used and the board goes to e-mail the message, this error is encountered:

collect: Cannot write ./dfh3BJZCL6024138 (bfcommit, uid=99, gid=25): Permission denied queueup: cannot create queue temp file ./tfh3BJZCL6024138, uid=99: Permission denied

Now the message that I reffered to in the above link, that talked abotu this same problem that someone else had, said that this was a service provider problem, something with their sendmail program. So I wrote my service provider who I am friends with and told him the whole situation. This was his reply:

*****************************************
Mike,

The problem is that we don't allow users to directly write to our mail
spool. This is for security reasons and is quite dangerous. You can
manage everything using sendmail, however, you cannot write directly to
the queue directory. Why they would do it that way is beyond me.

****************************************************

So I am at a total loss now. The service provider also said that no settings were changed on their side, so that something must have changed in the way ultimate bulletin board handles mail from 6.3.1.1 to 6.5

Once again, 6.3.1.1 handled mail fine. New users got there passwords through e-mail and private messages got sent out if that option was selected.

So what exactly is the deal? Why is this not working in 6.5, and whatever can I do or change to resolve it? Why does 6.5 not just use sendmail as is mentioned, why does it write directly to the spool which is considered 'dngerous' by the service provider. Why did mail work with 6.3 and not 6.5?

Help!?

I cannot get any new user registrations and am losing people daily who try to sign up and don't get their passwords.

Well, for starters, disable sending registration info by mail until you get this solved. The alternative will be that people will select their own passwords, and you won't lose any traffic during this time.

Those errors are being returned directly from Sendmail - not the UBB. This is not a UBB problem, so there's not much we can do here...

(Your host seems to be implying that UBB is trying to write to the mail directory... that isn't the case. UBB is sennding mail via Sendmail, and Sendmail is throwing the errors...)
