My UBB has been writing zero byte files, one of which was my 00000001 user record which made it difficult for me to log into CP.
Lately it has been writing 0 byte user records randomly and I just found membertotal.cgi last_approved.cgi and last_number.cgi files were all 0 byte files.

I figured it was lack of disk space but my webhoast says I have plenty. I checked the permissions and all are ok. What chmod should the member files themselves be? 666
or does it matter?

Any idea what's going on?

UBB ONLY writes out zero sized files during out of space conditions. Ask your web host to check once again. Just because you seem to have space left in your quota, it DOESN'T mean that there's actually space left on the drive!

Not a bug - moving from UBB6 Bugs to UBB6 Post Installation Troubleshooting.

There could also be a quota on the number of directories or files you're allowed to have, although I wouldn't think that would result in zero-length files.

You could test for an out of space condition yourself by creating or uploading a bunch of files, and seeing if it works.

Normally file quotas are caught by the UBB, actually...

I'll try deleting some files and see what happens. I have 900 megs of space and am using 30 of it.

Mikezed you are missing the point. You may only be using 30 of 900 megs in your quota but the server in total may be full. It is common practice for hosts to oversell a server based on the knowledge that usually users do not use all of their space. Well, looks like that backfired this time.
