#163994 - 06/17/04 01:49 PM "General" CP function doesn't work
Anonymous
Unregistered

I just upgraded from 6.5x to 6.7.1. Since doing that, the "general" section of the control panel under display options no longer works.

What happens is that I can access this section just fine; however, when I click "submit changes," I get a blank screen instead of a confirmation, and when I go back in, the change has not been saved.

The same thing happens with "Primary Settings." All the other elements of the control panel seem to work fine.

Hmmm. I think that could be any number of things... Can you tell me - when you submit the page - does it try to load for a while, and then give a blank page, or does it return the white screen immediately?

Thanks!

interesting... i'd like to have you try uploading fresh scripts and templates... could you do that for me?

you'll want to upload the following:

into your cgi-bin, delete & re-upload:
ubb_ files
cp2_ files
ultimatebb.cgi
cp.cgi

DON'T upload the vars_ files

into your ubb directory, delete the entire Templates directory and then re-upload it from the zip file...

let me know how that goes.

not yet, I was hoping for a simple quick fix Fortunately the board's running beautifully otherwise. I'll work on it this weekend when I have some time.

Kate, I took the steps suggested, using the files right out of the zip file, and no change at all. It is still just those particular elements of the control panel that aren't working.

This is a shot in the dark, but make sure all your vars_* files are CHMOD to 777

I checked, and that's OK too.

I don't know if this offers a clue, but I discovered by accident that if you try to log into the control panel and get the password or user ID wrong, it comes back with:

ok, I need to take out the mods I've been tinkering with (the problem existed before I installed them) and then I'll fill out the ticket.

sounds good - I'll keep my eyes open for it. (and kudos for keeping track of your mods for easy removal!)

Never mind, I figured out the problem. There were a couple of new subdirectories in the "Modules" directory, and on these ones when I was doing the upgrade and I uploaded the files, I forgot to set the permissions properly. Oops.
