I'm coming into threads from classic and don't have that much database experience. I can usually understand what is going on when someone else posts a sql query, but I'm a little hesitant to start doing my own stuff with it. Can anyone recommend some good websites to learn about managing the database?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

http://www.ubbdev.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/postlist/Board/51 has a few tips within it. Always backup your database before trying anything.

Bear in mind though that several of the commands in the forum above would be for 6.x and not 7.x - but the main principles are still true.

Get phpMyAdmin and click click click.

Just make backups first. Lots.

Read the manuals at mysql.com in regards to grants and especially WHAT TO DO IF YOU LOSE THE ROOT PASSWORD.

I want a dollar from every person that was messing with grants and changed the root password or removed grants they should not have.

Understand the permissions of the system first. Makes recovering from a disaster a lot easier.

In general I find the docs at mysql.com to be really good.
