Is it possible to make the member location as specified in the member profile a compulsory or mandatory field in v7?

What about in v6.5.5? I will be upgrading hopefully early to mid-January.

The members of my forums keep asking for this.

In UBB7 it's as easy as clicking "show and require" on the registration options page.
