Well not sure I would agree on the "Best Support in the Industry"

They offer to let you have either v4 or v5 of PHP and MYSQL but they don't ask you during signup
So I create a ticket to switch my site to PHP 5 and MySQL 5 on Dec 30
It's now Jan 4 and they close the ticket and say it's ready.
I logon and it's PHP 5.16 instead of 5.20 but oh well, then I look at MySQL and it's at 4.1.21-standard-log

I suppose being part of the BEST means you can't understand upgrading both to 5.x

You get what you pay for. \:p ;\)

Truly the "Best (Hosting) Support in the Industry" belongs to A Small Orange. I've had work done within 15 minutes - at 4AM! Too bad their servers aren't as reliable, though... lol

'eh most hosts are completely full of ..... lol... When i worked "at the webhost" (to remain anonymous as I don't want tied to there, but you can find it out quite easily) I was on the clock 24/7, always on call.. New ticket notifications went to my cell, server alerts as well; I ran an efficient gig, and I only got paid $1200/mo from the owner (fairly good for him considering I did server maintenance and was on call all the time)...

I never complained once, eventhough the pay was lacing for what I had to do, but he wanted "more" than i could offer and I got the boot...

Oh and btw, hostmonster is just another one of BlueHost's sites, so if you want a true picture of who they are as a company, search WebHostingTalk for BlueHost, you'll laugh... I think the best discussions are on their gross overselling of space/bandwidth...

Let me tell you, at any reputable host, if they saw some of the resource usage BlueHost boasts you can have, you'll haev your site suspended for resource abuse lol... comeon, 55gb space and 5tb bandwidth for $5/mo?

Damn that sucks - I wouldn't wanna be on-call 24/7 for $1200/week! (Okay, maybe right now I would lol)

Yeah, that's one good thing about ASO -- they don't oversell, and, you actually get exactly what they say they're giving you (which, of course, is much less than those "unlimited" plans some hosts bait you with).

LOL - Nah! you guys are great

Yeah I know it's all a bunch crap but I already have a real hosting company for my site, but didn't want to spend much for another so they were cheap overall.
They do actually answer quickly, they just don't do good follow up work.
But if I were running a paying business I surely would not go with them.

I was desperate... The worse part is, I got canned when my son was 2 months old, so it was horrid...

Argh...

Finally gave up with http://www.hostmonster.com It wasn't so much the time they were taking to fix it, it was the fact that their lack of attention to detail for setting up my account left me with the feeling a bunch of teenagers were doing the support.

Couldn't trust them to host it if the site became busy and really needed support. I just told them to cancel and credit back my card.

I'll just run a sub-domain on http://www.midphase.com from another site I have there. At least they have been good with support for over 3 years now with them. At times the site has issues, but overall better than any other hosting provider I've been with.

Well that was sweet.

I opened a ticket to have my account on midphase moved to a new server that runs MySQL 5 and PHP 5

I had an account that allowed up to 250 MySQL databases, but now days they only allow 3 and charge for anymore than that.

On the new account the counter is back to the default of 3. I chat with support and they say nothing they can do as it's a yearly charge for them. I call Billing and the girls puts me on hold and says she has to talk with the Manager.
I hear him in the back ground "How do you spell it" KiXhelp .... He say hey I know him give me the phone. He actually uses KiXtart and has a tech give me unlimited. When I signed up for the account originally they were not charing a yearly fee for databses like that. That was cool.
Not that I'll use more than a few, but the idea of them taking them away was a bummer, and the fact this Manager knew my site by name was cool.

You know, it's really sad that they limit it in the first palce, let alone that low... it doens't cost them anymore for you to use 9 databases than 1, the only differance is that there is the possibility for users to have 9 databases...

Yeah I hear ya, but I suppose if I sold sites under my account then they could end up with a ton of databases they were not planning on. Who knows - same thing for size limits but again I suppose one can assume that if the database if big in size it got that way from a LOT of traffic that they don't want burning up the resources of the server just for one site.

Yeah that really sucks as they sure don't advertise that as a possible issue on any site I've been on. They assume you're not going to be doing a booming business, and they are probably right 99% of the time. Of the hundreds of accounts mose sites don't use any database or hardly any resources.
