In the UBBT_USERS table there is a column named USER_REGISTRATION

It seems that almost all the entries have 127.0.0.1 except for Administrators and Moderators

Why is that and what is it used for ?

The main Administrator account (2) also has 127.0.0.1 but the other Admins do not.

127.0.0.1 would mean localhost and i think it'd be used if no ip was logged perhaps?

You mean USER_REGISTRATION_IP ?

Should be self-explanatory. ;\) Mine are filled in pretty well, and fully for those who've registered under Threads. If it can't determine the IP address they registered with, it'll default to 127.0.0.1

I don't have a USER_REGISTRATION field in UBBT_USERS -- that's why I asked. \:p

Doh! My fault was looking at wrong data. Yes you were correct Geoff about the name.

But still doesn't make sense that ALL of them would be 127.0.0.1

@Gizmo (thanks for the tip on localhost being 127.0.0.1 must have learned that I suppose a decade ago)

I can understand a few of them maybe being 127.0.0.1 but not all of them.

Okay - got curious and did a full query - seems that the software was probably broken or configured wrong at some time as old accounts are set at 127.0.0.1 and not new ones.

Nothing Gizmo, my fault. I apologize. I took it as a dig at me when obviously it was not.

Sorry guy.

My thoughts are that if it's from an import that the users who didn't have a registration ip stored pre-import that it inserted them as 127.0.0.1

Why would Admins and Mods be blank ?

When they originally registered they were not Admins or Mods and when they are logged in right now you see their IP so I'm assuming that it's blank for some reason and it was made blank when they became an Admin or Mod, just not sure why that would be.

Trying to understand the application better.

i think that in classic when you registered and it couldn't read your ip (not sure why) it would enter a blank; im' not sure if it'd happen in threads either.

Basically sometimes an ip can't be read, or is read as the webserver; especially when php is running as a cgi.

Yeah, it can't always be determined... just look at your stats - a lot of things are "unknown" :/

lol yeh, a stats logger is a good way to look at things; mine has a ton that are "unknown" or listed as my server name.
