Well since I make a living supporting Windows here is a little more information to ponder. From here: http://www.openal.org/openal_vista.htmlEAX has become the de facto standard for real-time effects processing. It has been incorporated in hundreds of games and has become the method of choice for game developers wanting to add interactive environment effects to their titles. Some of the best selling games of all time use the EAX extensions to DirectSound 5.0 and beyond, including Warcraft3, Diablo2, World of Warcraft, Half Life, Ghost Recon, F.E.A.R. and many others. Under Windows Vista, these games will be losing the hardware support that came as standard under the previous Windows Operating Systems, and will no longer provide real-time interactive effects, making them sound empty and lifeless by comparison to the way they sound on Windows XP.

(none ?) (actually a better chart than Microsoft has on their site) http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2068721,00.asp.

Are we talking legal ethics here, or, are you saying Vista won't (literally) run on another system? I have two computers: My new one comes with a free upgrade to Vista. Can I install it on my old system (ethics aside ) even thought I've authenticated XP on the new one? (I want to keep XP on my new system, but wanna "try out" Vista on my old one) So legal issues aside - would that work? (My old system doesn't have a legit copy of XP on it, tho. That could stop be right there, right? :/ But I'd do a clean install, so.....?)

I'm going to read those links you posted. Thank you. On another note, I think I noticed somewhere here that it's possible that upgrading a machine will cause Vista problems? I'm using the same machine I cobbled together back in 95. Of course every few months or so something breaks or wears out and gets replaced. The last original piece, the floppy drive, was replaced last winter. It's Win2k because my WinXP software made me call Microsoft every time I reinstalled. I'm not even sure Vista will run on this slap dash piece of equipment and I surely don't want to have to be hassled by a legally purchased and registered piece of software over hardware upgrades. I've already got 2 XP licenses I don't and wont use because the machines they were to be installed on received cpu or MB replacements. Still on 2k, don't think they will get upgraded. Why would I buy Vista? Seems to me that it is made for pre-assembled computers purchased new from dell, not for me. I'd love to be wrong, I'd love to move to something newer than Win2k, but what I'm reading is not filling me with good feelings. Am I wrong?

BOINC is a pain sometimes in Windows, too, trust me. I'd just hate to stop something I've spent almost 8 years on. Even tho I haven't found any ET's yet. Cancer would be a good cause, tho (obviously) - I just wish it shared the same client that I already am running, cuz I'd've split the CPU time between them. (BTW - the Core 2 Duo is crunching like nobody's business - two projects at a time in like a half/third of the time as one on my old Athlon. )

See, I kept thinking that Vista was a female-dog to load after all the complaints I've been hearing! But I think that's cuz they just didn't know how to do it... After over 12 hours of trying to install Windows Vista, downloading countless drivers that didn’t work and dealing with lots of hardware conflict issues, Anthony figured he was finally qualified to give others a very useful tutorial on installing Windows Vista on a computer running Windows XP. See for yourself how to SUCCESSFULLY install Windows Vista!
I present you, here, a short video demonstration on how to install Vista! That makes it so much easier now....
