After many months beging to my provider to updade to mySQL 4.x I finally give up.
I got a new provider with have it already in place.
Now the problem begins:
How can I move my installation from my current provider, 6.5.x to my new provider w/o re-installing everything?
Can I do a backup of my database on server 1 (old) and restore on server 2(new)?
how would be the right way to do it?
I have two different domains running right now, one is xxxx.com e the other is xxxx.org.
I'm planning that maybe I can use the xxxx.org in a permanent basis if that is possible, so I can keep my old server running xxxx.com until all the installation is ready to go with the new version 7.1 on the xxxx.org.

Thank you

You can keep the same domain name .com
As all you need to do is update the name server settings
in your domain settings.

You can access the new site via ip and a sqwiggle ~/blarblar.com

then when your done, update the name servers in your domain settings and everyone it looking at the same place
in 24hrs \:\)

I done it with a classic install, that had been converted
to threads. I backup the DB and imported into a new one.

Sorry rushing out, maybe others can help too.

That helps, but let me ask a little more:
I want to keep both copies until I'm ready to deploy the version 7.1.
So, if I 'backup' all mySQL tables on my old server,
Install the version 7.1 on my new server
'restore' the previus backup on my new server.
run the migration tool.
It will work?
Or do I need to install all .php and folders from my old server on my new server, then upgrade?

how about the 'prefix' (on the old one is'w3t')

My advice would be Keep it simple.

Stick to what you know as in get your current set up
working on your new server, and then convert when there.

At worst you will loose a days posts.
Or put a notice about possible outage.
While you wait for the DNS to populate 24(hrs) more like a few hours.

Then when your happy do the conversion on your new server.

OK. I will do in that way then. Probably will be the best.
I'm having problems importing the database (please see my other post, on this same forum).
It's not a big deal loosing one or two days of posts, and I guess will make my life much easier. \:\)

This is fairly simple; UBB.T6 is a completely differant codebase than UBB.T7, it's not a simple upgrade; so my sugguestion to you is this.

1. Make an SQL Dump of your old files, and move your old forum files to the new server and restore the dump there. Keep the paths the same, and update the dns servers (walah, you've migrated your old forum).

2. Install UBB.Threads7, you can import your old forum if you want, or you can do a dummy install so you can play.

Whammo, 2 ubb installs on one server, and no need to pay for two webhosts ;)...

The old web host will be discontinued as soon as I can make this thing work \:\)
Those guys are really bad. They want me to upgrade to a more expensive server, so I could have the mySQL 4.x...

haha, that's just sad... you could go with a VPS, you'd have full control over just about anything... http://www.WebIntellects.com folks are quite nice (I have a few of my clients working with them)
