After this error my forums came up, people started logging in and posting .. so the SQL does seem to be alive and well.

I hope we can recoved from this, I have 6 years of history that I very much wish to get moved over to the new forum.

As far as I know, "MySQL server has gone away" means that the SQL server was offline.

Not sure why your board would open up before you were finished importing, but -- if everything didn't come thru, you had better start again. The server went down, can't help that. But please close your board first before doing any maintenance...

Okay, but is it safe to reimport ontop of the threads that are already there? and users?

You can re-do the Threads 7 import, but you'll lose anything posted since your first import...

So yeah, close your board until you're ready to reopen it - wipe/drop the SQL tables from the first import - then start again, and hopefully it'll complete the import entirely. Set up the board preferences/styles, etc, to your liking, and then open it up when it's ready...

Okay, thanks .. i'm re importing it now.
I've also shutdown all other sites, and killed non-essential applications to make sure SQL has plenty of memory and CPU to do it's thing.. I can imagine this is a very stressful process considering I have 40K+ posts.

FWIW - I had over 300,000 posts when I did it, and it took I think about 6+ hours or so... can't recall exactly from October, but...

BTW, you'll want to start fresh and not re-import on top of the original import.

Yeah, I told him to drop the tables - hopefully he did.

if he doesn't, he'll have one heck of a lot of duplicate users/posts/pms lol
