Is there any way to remove the moderator and administrator gif image tags from the names when one of us posts?

In my site, the moderators and admins would like to keep a low profile.

I suppose I could replace the .gif images on the site with something blank, but the mouse-hover would still popup "moderator" or "administrator".

It would also be nice if we could remove the list of moderators.

Any ideas?

You can alter the templates - or a 1 x 1 transparent gif might be quicker \:\)

The first thing I did was replace the "A" and "M" icons with transparent images of the same size. I figured having the Red and Green names was enough to indicate Admins and Mods.

But yeah, to remove those icons, and the moderator listing at the bottom of the page, you'd probably have to comment that code out from the templates.

I'm not sure where it designates the red and green names, though...

Interesting, tho, how you'd like to disable all this. I'd think that Mods would want to be known, so members know who to be nice to. \:D ;\)

I recommend the 1x1 transparent gif route myself. They don't need to be the same size.

There is a CSS class in the stylesheet that indicates colors of admin's and mod's.

Also, you can set special colors in a users profile.

I can change my Member Title to "member" and change the Name Color to #336699, and I'll change the icons, so that should pretty much hide things when we post.

But how to remove names from the moderator list at the bottom of the page and from each place the forum is listed?

I guess what I would really like is a new feature: Invisible Status for moderators and administrators, selectable for each individual. (...and I know the list of requested new features is long. But if it has not been requested, I'll be happy to do that.)

Display Options -> General -> Forum Summary Options. Just uncheck the "Show Forum Moderators" and they won't be displayed.

Just deciding which would be faster... re-typing my hacks, or you just including showflat and showthreaded into the "do not display mods" list... lol

Okay, here they are again:

In /templates/default/showflat.tpl:
On or near Lines 242-244, Find:
 Code:
<span class="small">
{if $modlist && ($modlist != "&nbsp;&nbsp;")}{$lang.USER_MOD}: {$modlist}<br />{/if}
</span>

Comment it out:
 Code:
<!--//
<span class="small">
{if $modlist && ($modlist != "&nbsp;&nbsp;")}{$lang.USER_MOD}: {$modlist}<br />{/if}
</span>
//-->

In /templates/default/showthreaded.tpl:
On or near Lines 272-274, Find & do the same thing

And for the heck of it, in postlist.tpl:
On or near Line 226,
 Code:
{if $modlist}{$lang.USER_MOD}: {$modlist}{/if}
Can be commented out as well.

Rick, what's the difference between those, though? {if $modlist} seems to check the CP choice, no? Wouldn't all 3 be turned off?

Ok, I guess you typed all of those out for nothing ;\) I misread the question, the control panel option will catch all of those.

The CP option simply populates $modlist, if it's disabled, it won't populate $modlist and thus $modlist will be blank, so the if $modlist line will see there is no mods and won't display the block on any of the $modlist lines.

it's not 15 words..it's 15 characters. You can make a meaningful post in 10 or 12 words, but the chance is much less within 15 characters ;\)

Ok ok.... 15 characters or 15 words... whatever!

I unchecked the box, and the moderator disappeared from the list of forums display, but it does NOT remove the moderator from the bottom of a flat thread or at the bottom of the list of threads.

...so jgeoff, please leave the template mods up there, and I'll see if I can make the mods.

By the way, do I ftp the .tpl files and edit them on my laptop, or do I use that language editor you guys were talking about in another thread?

I typed it twice, they're not going anywhere. lol But let me know if I missed any...

And yeah, you can use either FTP or the CP to update those files...
