For aesthetic reasons, I have all pages on my website formatted to a width of 785 pixels which gives the entire site a clean uniform look and it fits in all of my visitors screens with 800X600 resolution and above. I currently have my forums within this 785 pixel format which looks fine, however, if a user has the left column enabled, the forum list and posts are narrower than I would like. If I set the width attribute to a larger width, members using a screen resolution of 800X600 have to scroll the screen to adjust the view. If I remove the width attribute altogether, the forum fills the page as wide as the screen which I don't like if it's too wide. (it matters to me, that's why)

Is there a way to make a page dynamically load up to a predetermined width but allow it to auto size to a smaller screen without the need for scrolling? Predetermined meaning an actual width set in pixels, not a percentage.

Yeah, I know, I am asking a lot! By the way, I set the forum width in the HTML Includes using a table. Thanx for any ideas!

Do you really have that many 800x600 users? I run a decent sized community and i can't say that I have that many...

I recently re-enabled my screen size logger (about 2 weeks ago) and I haven't had any to be honest...

I have about 100 using 800X600 and two poor saps still surfing with 640X480! Those people deserve to scroll. You have me thinking though and a compromise on my part may be in order. Is it just me or does everybody find themselves constantly screwing with their web site? Then again, I have had no complaints concerning the layout and maybe I should just leave well enough alone for now. Dammit! I need another hobby to distract me!!!

You could force everyone to buy a new monitor and come into the 2000's and out of the 1980's lol... Myself I code for a minimum of 1024x768 or 1280x1024; most standard monitors now adays support them without issues; man those screens at 800x600, i can't even contempalte that anymore lol

The only thing we all ought to think about is looking after users who use smaller screens (ie PDA's, compact laptops etc.) and these people will only increase in number.

Like "Print View", we definitely need to consider a stripped-down "Mobile View" option (somehow)... sounds like a lot of work, but starting to build that up now surely would help in the future.
