I imagine I can't.. but it seems reasonable to have a checkbox in the Member Information / Permissions to disallow individuals from using the Shout.
All in all, my posters love it, and it's a nice community builder.. but I've got one or two people that abuse it. Rather than ban them (which would be overkill for the situation) I would prefer to block their access to the Shout.
Shout should be a privilege and not a right

IMHO - Abusing the Shoutbox is abusing your site. And abuses to your site should be dealt with appropriately, regardless of the method of abuse. Just hand out suspensions and they'll get the hint.

LOL - mine it far too popular - we can get hundreds of posts over a day on it. To be honest I am finding it is building a good community - if people do abuse it then their messages are soon vanished
I will only delete messages if they swear in it - but on the whole people have fun with it. For example when we had heavy snow a couple of days ago - the members were having a snowball fight LOL
However I agree that it and most others items must be group based - items like this can be solely for premium members.

I'll only add a chatroom when I can also integrate a "Who's In Chat" island on my forums... I'm still waiting for FlashChat (ahem), but haven't had time to *try* my own integration -- FordDoctor really fooled me with his

BTW, jIRC does have an addon (an addon to the pJIRC itself) of a "bot" which can relay who is active in the chat; however this functionality is beyond the scope of my addon at UBBDev.
Just FYI ;).
BTW, I was up for helping the flashchat dude, but he wanted me to violate my license by giving him my UBB download vs utilizing a pre-existing development site :/
