I noticed two things this afternoon. First, after being forced to move our boards to a new server, users are completely unable to edit posts at all. (Once again, another admin did this and I don't know what he did to get the forums back up) I've got the time limit set to 360 min. The edit button in the post never displays.

Admins can see the edit button just fine.

I was eventually able to "work around" the problem by getting the url on the edit button for a particular post via my admin acct. Then, I logged in as a general user, opened the post I wanted to edit, and used the edit url to get to the edit page where I was able to edit the post just fine.

Two questions: Why wouldn't the edit button ever display for users (am I missing a setting somewhere??) and If the user can just build the "edit url" from scratch, what good is the edit timer?

Could the Gif image for edit be corrupt?

I don't think the gif image is corrupt because admins can see it just fine.

Just to be clear...the edit button is never visible for users. The software is behaving as if the edit timer is set to zero. I've even gone into the CP and set the timer to zero, then to 10, then to 360 and submitted the change each time, just to make sure its not a bad data condition.

Personally, I'd like a way to turn off the edit timer completely. It would help in debugging this, that's for sure.

Oh...one more thing. Before the switch to a different server, users could edit their posts normally. After the switch, they can't. This points to something on the server, possibly the database, being hosed.

There was an issue at some point with the edit timer not
understanding zero or -1 but i believe that's fixed now.

Have you checked your user groups?
Which group are they in?

Then can you check there group permissions for a forum?

Example :

user = Read write

Ive moved on to 7.15b so i'm trying to rememebr any issues
i may have had with 7.02, but i cant recall that issue

So you were running 7.02 okay on the old server
but now on the new server this issue has happened?

That's correct. I've not been able to get any info from the other admin about what the problem was, but sql died in a loud grotesque military fashion. It even took the control panel with it. The other admin and the ISP worked out the problems and eventually settled on a new server. I know that doesn't help you at all, though.

You mention a timer setting of -1. Does that turn off the timer?

It does nothing, it was a bug found, what version i cant rememeber, as zero was supposed to dissable the feature.

Humm there could be some corruption in the database?

There are some sql comands that "Rick" the main man
has posted helping others with database issues
which may help in checking your database.

Could you consider using a previous backup of your slq
before it went bang. Not the ideal solution,
but may be the only one.

1. Do some searching in the Bugs Forum to database posts.
2. Its out of my scope to post sql statments that may help.
3. Begin a support ticket, either way rick will have to login
and see what's going on.
