Might we be able to get a demo version of 7.1 going? I see the current demo available is 7.0. Thanks!

Hi Willing. I've been meaning to get that updated when I get a bit of spare time. Working on 7.1.1 right now, so I'll probably get it updated after that's finished.

7.0 and 7.1 pretty much look/feel about the same from an admin perspective. Heck, I had not touched much since about 7.0 b4 or 5 and when 7.1 came out I was able to get my site up and running in about 15 minutes and this included importing from 6.5.5.

I would suggest playing with 7.0 and if you like it, then buy it and you will get the release version of 7.1.

I have already tried 7.0.
I want to try 7.1, that is why I asked.

Willing,

I take it that you are not "sold" on 7.0?

One thing to remember is that the demo versions don't offer the full capability as the live release versions. That's because they need to be able to sell you something.

Are you having a problem installing it or do you not like a feature? I'm asking because again because most of the differences between the betas (7.0) and the release (7.1) are bug fixes, not actual interface changes or functionality changes (but I guess there are a few minor ones like the ability for users to turn off the side panels - thanks Rick we asked for that and you delivered).

I guess what I am trying to say here is I don't see why you need to try out version 7.1 if you have the demo for version 7.0. At this point you either know if you are going to buy the software or not. If it is a bug issue you are seeing, I wouldn't worry about that because 1) there were several bug fixes, 2) they work on completing/fixing bugs every day and 3) they do a nice job of supporting their product. There are also several third party support sites with addons/mods once you get going and comfortable with the software (highly modifiable) and can get just about anything done you want.

Just an FYI, with the last version (6.5.x) the demo was from version 5 something I believe or maybe even more. Yes, the latest release was a lot nicer from the demo, but the demo gave me a demo of what I was going to get, which is the intention.

That doesn't really seem to make much sense.
"They need to be able to sell you something"

I want the demo of 7.1 because it is the one that I would be buying, not 7.0. Surely that is not too difficult to understand. That is all I was asking.

Willing,

If they gave you the full release version, why would you need to buy it? To be nice? A lot of people never would. This isn't shareware or freeware. The demo version is limited and doesn't have all the features you get with the full version, or at least it didn't use to.

As to you wanting 7.1 because it is the version you would be getting, this is probably more of an understanding or not understanding.

Think of it this way. The difference between version 6.5.5 and version 7 is like the difference between Windows 98 and Windows XP. The difference between 7.0 and 7.1 is like the difference between Windows XP and Windows XP/SP1.

In other words, IT IS THE SAME THING EXCEPT WITH BUG FIXES.

Most of these bugs are things you would never see in a demo, you simply don't have the user base (you can't, the demo doesn't let you) to find them. So, yes, I fail to see why you NEED a demo for 7.1 and I would much rather have Rick work on version 7.2 before he changes the demo to a 7.1 version.

But hey, if you can't understand that, maybe I'll come up with a few more analogies...

BTW, aren't the demo installs of the 7.x series all installed on UBBCentral vs a downloadable demo?
