Before I import and go live with Threads, I'd like to do a few test imports from my Classic board.

Short of sitting there and watching the import, is there any way to know how long it took once it is completed?

I'd like to know how much down time I'm looking at when I decide to do it for real.

The only possible way I could see would be to note what time you started and then check your server access logs. Look for the very last call to classic_import.php and that will give you the finishing time.

'eh from classic i've seen it go several days; really depends on your forum size and how much load is on the server...

Mine took almost 24 hours on my trial run from thread 6.5

Yeh, but Threads6 is a php/sql solution, whereas UBB.Classic was a Perl/Flat File solution, which will take much longer..

When importing a lot of data, what should you do if for some reason the connection is interrupted. Do you have to start the import all over again?

Hit back and let it go from where it died last; means less duplicate content...

So it gives you that option then? (I won't be experiencing the import side of things until I am fully ok with the threads setup and everything).

Yes, I haven't had any issues with forums when I've had to backup one page if for some reason I've lost the connection.
