so we don't like change and wanted things how they've always worked ;)...
So, go have fun with ubb.classic v1.00 then and let us go on with newer and better things ;)...

I basicly have nothing to do with loginnames, except maybe to try to help a user with logon problems. Displayname is the thing we track for our "punishments".

Hey now, I'm partially responsible for a ton of feedback and ideas of a lot of features that people now enjoy, including the SE friendly URLs that just about every forum product utilizes now and UBB.threads' new CAPTCHA system...
I still remember CC asking me why in the hell anyone would want their forum indexed on a search engine :x... Then various people asking why we'd need CAPTCHA protection when email validation worked for a lot of users...
We couldn't see a reason why we would want to use our email address as the login name, and we enjoyed the system as it was in the first place and saw no real need for change...

I like punishment... Rick stopped punishing me though, and Charles left the company... And Dave, he hasn't the time anymore

I hope you did see my smiley behind my comment
Things happen from practise, as I said, we started allowing display name changes, and then you really stumble on to taken names by loginnames.
I do have a solution now thanks to this topic, I know I can change the loginname, but it's a hassle for the user with that loginname and more administrative work.

You get stuck with PDN's sometimes and when you use a forum solution that doesn't have them you're all "you mean I have to put AS CaSe how I want my name to display AS MY LOGIN NAME?" (which is generally cAsE SeNsAtIve), craziness :x...
Lol you could change their info and use the "send password to this user" link in the cp; should send them their login name and a temporary password...
And the ladies know all about the punishment :ahem:!
