Are there any issues that I have to think about when I want to rename a loginname for a user straight in the database?

I might want to do that to free up names for people to register.

Members may not like that your messing with there data?

I would just delete them, if there inactive for long periods.

Sorry i dont know the cons of modifying a "login" Name.

The loginname is only stored in the USERS table so there shouldn't be any technical issues with it.

To free up that name for somebody to use as a displayname.

If a user logs in as "X" and uses displayname "Y", it blocks "X" as displayname for everybody.

Yeh mark, if login name or public name are in use, neither can be used as a login name or public name... Kinda sad lol...

It is me, or was there talk here about ubb using the e-mail adres as loginname instead of a seperate login name.

It's kind of a waste that it blocks loginnames for people to register as displayname.

The beta testers as a whole didn't like the idea :ahem:...

It does kind of make sense though, I mean, it'd be kind of confusing if it worked otherwise...

Though I would like to see the ability to edit login names in the admin CP

Sort of, but we have recently introduced display name changes on our board, and it's kinda confusing for members not to able to take usernames that happen to be loginnames. If a login name is nothing more then a login name, why block it as display name.

so we don't like change and wanted things how they've always worked ;)...

Yeh, but as a mod/admin if you're punishing a user with the display name "pooh" and you see someone with the username "pooh" you could jump tot he conclusion that they're the same people and thus shun someone who would otherwise have no direct coorilation to the other..
