Question about cache time

On the admin we are able to change the following settings:

Cache time for Who's Online
Cache time for Top Posters
Cache time for Forum Stats
Cache time for Public Calendar

I understand about load on the server being affected by longer or shorter times, but I have another question.

If the times are specified in admin as being shorter time periods, does it effectively mean that the number of people 'caught' (and so included in the numbers) will be larger or the other way round? If that makes sense....? $\:\)$

The cache is built on a lot of items based on "at that instant"... In any case, these items ALL have a set period of time that they work with...

Top posters only shows the top people (unless you set it to display more).
WOL only shows like 5 people, the full wol page is shown in real time, so shows everyone at that instant you load the page (afaik)
forum stats is basically static
public calendar is ultimately static as well.
