OK nearly ready to upload the 2 files to forward people to the threads forums.

Questions:

Should I have the classic in "open" or "closed" status?
(Does that matter?)

Once I have done that, will the classic admin page be available to me, and will I be able to go in to the classic admin (if I wanted to to check things etc)?

Leave them open, then if the importer worked
they should be redirected to the old internal post links.

Yes you can still access the classic admin as
it will on a diffrent path. (Location)

1. leave the forum open so links into your old topics will still work and the redirects will take care of the rest

It won't matter; the redirect scripts do not look at forum opened/closed; they simply forward the request to your threads install and the import_map table forwards them to the proper location.

In fact, you don't need any of your old classic files in place after you've imported to threads.
