#184602 - 05/23/07 04:08 AM Question about PMs after Import

My import brought in all of my PMs -- dating back to the site start -- even ones that I deleted. I had 58 pages of PMs. I'm wondering if it does that for every user, or just me because I'm the admin?

I'd like to know for sure, as this can obviously cut down on a ton of data to bring in during the import.

How can I know and control this?

Thanks for any tips.

The importer discussions should cover this issue many times over... To import pm's from UBB.C a "comprimise" had to be made in order to sort out the two sides of a PM, as there are two users to every pm, there is no simple way to differenciate between which users haven't deleted the message yet; so in order to allow the import of PM's, all users of an EXISTING message will recieve the message in their inbox should one of the two participants still have it presant in their inbox.

BAsicallly, you're user a, i'm user b; should you choose to delete a pt, it still exists in my inbox until i choose to delete it. So, user A deletes it, but user B does not, the message will still be presant on the server (belonging to user B); unless both user A and user B delete the message, it's still addsig=1

As stated, by design, if either user has a copy of the PM, it will be in both in-boxes after import.

After import, I still have some from long past deleted users.

Does that mean that in Classic, his PMs remained on the server, even after his user account was deleted?

Where both parties deleted? It is semi possible that some pm's may have been left on the server in classic.

Mine copies were long since deleted. And, the user's account was, too.

So, the files must have been left on the server.

Maybe adjust something with the importer: if user is deleted, then no PMs connected to him come through to others after import.

That'd be a problem, theres no way to check if one party deleted a pm or not; simply put, if they exist they're SUPPOSED to exist... A bug in classic isn't a bug in Threads, the importer is just a courtesy... Just like from other products (when they finally come out ;)).

I follow. All I'm saying is maybe an if/then statement. If a classic user was deleted, then PM's tied to his user # don't come over on import. Lots more important things for Rick to worry about I'm sure, that's the bottom line. The importer worked great and I'm up and running with Threads, so that's most important. \:\)
