0 - "Thank you for registering, please click here to validate your email address." 24 - "You haven't yet validated your email address for our forums, please click here. Your request to join our community will expire in 48 hours if you do not validate your account." 48 - same as above only indicating 24 hours. 96 - "Your request to join our community has expired due to non-validation of your account; to re-sign up, please visit here."
But from where I am it doesn't have to be that complex. Just have no limit would be far better than the current imposed limit. If the above could also be done, great.

definitely needs a limit.
Otherwise you would always have hundreds in your queue. Also if people enter the wrong email address they never get an email and have to wait until the time expires before they can re-register with their desired login/user name.
This is the only downside to extending the time. So perhaps the registration should confirm back their details at the end including their email, and give the new members an opportunity to cancel their registration and start again.
I think many people enter it wrong in the first email box and then copy and paste into the second one, rather than typing it out again.

Possibly have a way to expire a registration in queue if you know the email address; though if they entered the wrong email address they wouldn't be able to do that...
