I am contemplating using UBB.threads as the user management heart of a closed site. I need to be able to capture additional user information, e.g. phone numbers (possibly several), mailing address and various other things.

Some of the information needs to be available to other users, e.g. certain contact information.

How easy would it be to do that? Or indeed is that already an available feature?

Very easy and it's all available. There's optional extra fields that can be set up and filled out in a user profile. Stuff that you wouldn't want to be as public can go to a private topic.

OR you could just use the custom info boxes in the profile and edit their viewage out of the showprofile.tpl file
