Would I do this in the showflat and showthreaded?

You'd have to edit both the public facing templates (showflat.tpl and showthreaded.tpl (or just showflat.tpl in 7.2)); you'd have to adapt the pagination box into the links area, it wouldn't be too straight forward of an adaptment, so be sure to make a backup
