I already back up the web files FTP but the MYSQl database (New to me) is on another server. Just anxious after upgrading from Classic and wanted to make a backup. So you are telling me that the UBB control panel will only backup the tables even with the all tables option selected. To make a full backup I need another tool such as PHPADMIN. Back to the PHPADMIN DOC files I guess. Where is the match for the candle.

It'll make a backup of all the tables if you select all, it will just be a very slow process.

do you know the flavor of control panel they gave you with your domain account?

cpanel, plesk ?

if either one of them, then you'll have phpMyAdmin there. and then you select your Database, then Export..

probably enable gzip to a file.. and let er rip ;\)

My control panel is HELM
There is a tool called PHPMYADMIN but it just seemed easier at this piont to use the UBB control panel. The board looks to be only about 15MB so that is not that big of a deal to download the backup folder. But if the UBB tool will not provide me with a complete backup I will just read and read til I learn it.

15mb is no biggie.. you are fine then..

i'm still stuck (in my brain) on the 1.5gb database that i just finished upgrading..

phpmyadmin couldn't even deal with it.. i had to go to the console and do it..

good luck!!

If you're on a Linux/Unix machine, you can use the Command Line tools via SSH to create a database dump (backup of the mysql database) by inserting the command:
 Quote:
mysqldump -uusername -ppassword databasename > databasename.sql

If you wish to compress the above output so that it's easier to transfer around, then you can do:
 Quote:
tar -cvpzf databasename.tgz databasename.sql

If you've compressed the output and would like to decompress it, then you can run:
 Quote:
tar -xzvf databasename.tgz

(the output will extract as databasename/databasename.sql)

And to restore said backup, after you purge data out of the MySQL database:
 Quote:
mysql -h localhost -uusername -ppassword databasename < databasename.sql

You know, I was thinking about saying "if you'd like to compress the output, then run..." but figured it'd be above a lot more people... But I'l update none the less!

Well, I'm not a windows guy so i'm not 110% sure of your options; I think that with the size of your database it'd be best to use PHPMyAdmin; it's not recommended for larger databases (100mb+) as it'll die and you'll end up with an incomplete archive
