I have a few vicious spammers and trolls on my board
Just upgrading to 7.2 final from 6.5. Big Jump

What do I need to have the best tools to fight trolls and Spammers

I like to be able to get IP info and to check for double identities...

I have installed a few mods... a waiting period. Users have to wait a couple of day before they can post and need to have 20 posts before htey can post... I also had a double identity check but it doesn ot work with trolls that know their way around

No too sure as what 7.2 offers for Spam and help control

My Spam is mainly competing boards trying to lure our members and affiliates trying to make a buck... some are robots, easy to block, others are dedicated persons on a mission, not easy to block.

The moderators and administrator need all the help they can get

How do you fight Spam and trolls?

Thanks

7.2 offers several features you may find useful..

Additionally, theres post moderated forums, which requires posts be approved before shown to the public.

theres also the captcha which stops automated bots from registering and posting.

my recommendation would be to block most free isp email providers (hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc) and try to enforce an "isp email" policy if possible.

You can also ban people from using PM's on a user by user basis.

Thanks for answering

Moderated forums are not an option, we need the post to show right away and do not have 24/7/365 moderators

Automated Spam is not a problem.

There are so many free services offering free email accounts and temporary email accounts that restricting registration that way will only annoy the good members we want to attract. The troublemakers know how to do a google search for free email accounts, free temporary email accounts, and more...

Also... restricting PM Spammers to no PM's works but by the time we spot them it is too late...

Would be nice to have some sort of alarm to let admin know someone is sending too many PM's or multiple copies of the same PM... or an automatic block when certain alarms are triggered...

The PM filters do not work as it is ver easy to ad spaces between letter or put a letter of the censored world in each line

My kind of troublemaker may be even reading this forum to learn how to be a better troublemaker... I know I can not keep them off but would like it it took them much longer...
