I am interested to know if the internal thread links will be updated if I upgrade from UBB 5.45c to UBB Threads.

I have 56000+ posts that have links to other threads in my current forums, after upgrading will these links be modified to point to the same thread but in the new UBB Threads forums?

Thanks,
Steve Rossell

The redirect script will take care of them. The links themselves won't be modified, but there is a redirect script that you use, that redirects people from the old links to the proper location within UBB.threads.

Yes, keeping the re-direct scripts in place \:\)

You'll need to update to ubb.classic 6.7.3 prior to importing into threads.

Edit: On second thought - your links to other topics in the 5-series UBB go to xxxxxxxxx.html files - if you want people to be able to find those you'll need to leave those .html files in place. Once someone clicks on another link within the ubb the re-direct scripts will forward to the current location of the the forum, not to an individual topic.

It's possible to do a search/ replace to update the topic-links within the posts, but that would need some extra thought \:\)

Still... because the topics in the 5-series are flatfile .html files, you'll need to leave them in place if you don't want people to get 404 errors. In 6 months or so most bookmarks will be updated. It's possible to do something at the server level to re-direct, but that's a little outside the scope of this support forum - possibly sir dude or ntdoc would know \:\)

Ahh yeah, good catch Allen. Forgot about the old ones being flat html files.

It would be an improvement if it didn't take so much hard drive space - virtually no server load to serve a flat file .html page - Ted was ahead and behind of his times ;\)
