suddenly i do get this error on my ubb 6.5.0 which was running extremly stable for a bunch of years already, rebuilding stats didn't help, either switching cache-mode on and off again:
Can't find string terminator "!" anywhere before EOF at CachePath...

[Re: chris_tf]
Please help..! Whilest searching on google in found several other ubb-boards cached with exactly that error-message, so somehow this seems to be an issue which happened a couple of times and seemed to get fixed. so, any help really very appreciated because the problem gets currently worse, more and more threads are affected and damaged, newest postings can't get read and aren't displayed... ;-(
i'm afraid that infogroupee won't help even i did pay for a one-year-support/download-licence whilest waiting for the 'new thing' to get released which wasn't released that time - so i paid for _nothing_ and this might be my last chance contacting them and asking to help.
but you gurus out there for sure had previously seen an issue like that and might help me fixing? pleeeeeeeeeeeease...
thanks, it's really becoming pretty urgent :-( chris

The error message should provide more information than ""; please paste the entire error. The data after the CachePath should just be file locations so something somewhere is awry. We'll need the full error, including the full path displayed with the message.

There should be an option in the CP: "Rebuild forum metadata" try that, if it doesn't work, rename CachePath/search_index/forum28_recentmeta.cgi and then try and rebuild it again (basically what is happening is that the metadata in forum28 is corrupt)
Giz and Allen, thanks a lot - i already tried rebuilding Stat and Search-Files especially for that category/subforum where the error occurs but this didn't help. So, now i'll try to rebuild Stats and Search-Files for everything and hopefully this time it will work ;-)
Well, running the rebuilt of the stats file resultet finally in these bunch of error messages:
An error has occurred:
Can't find string terminator "!" anywhere before EOF at /usr/local/www/data-dist/technoforum.de/public_html/ubb/cache-AS88CL86/search_index/forum28_recentmeta.cgi line 7309.

so, which file should get deleted and can the delete of this file damage anything else?
thanks again for taking your time and helping me! chris

Specifically, the file is: /usr/local/www/data-dist/technoforum.de/public_html/ubb/cache-AS88CL86/search_index/forum28_recentmeta.cgi
But I'd recommend purging the entire folder and rebuilding.
And as sugguested, an upgrade is highly advised as it would allow users to remotely execute their code on your server which could do any number of nasty irrecoverable things (to your site or the entire server depending on security).
