Is this normal? Will they prune at some time, or just keep accumulating? I'm a bit concerned with eventually having a few million files...

That's up to your server; I honestly don't know what the setting is nor where it is; however I do know that it's a webserver issue vs a UBB issue.

What OS is your server running on as well? I've seen one case in Window$ where full write/execute access hadn't been granted to the temp and sessions directory so the files woudln't get purged.

guessing that maybe a setting in the PHP config file is not set correctly or permissions for Apache / PHP to remove them is not set properly?

On some servers, PHP's garbage handling which cleans up session files is disabled by default as they are going the cron job route. If you have access to the servers php.ini file, look for the line that has:

session.gc_probability

This may be commented out, or have a 0 for the value. If it is commented out, uncomment it. You'll also need to make sure it has a positive value, normally 1. At that point the webserver should be restarted as well.

Good glad you got it working and that my guess was on track as well.

Don't play with Linux as much as I used to so wasn't sure.
