It would work - the character set needs to be changed for chinese characters to work.

just an FYI, you can change the character set from within the language editor. The default is iso-8859-1.

Where in the language editor?

I have same problem using Croatian characters on my forum, since the upgrade (7.3).
It looks like after the upgrade it wen't back to default setting.
I use to be able to change it in the past, but somehow I can't find it now.

If you overwrite the language files you will be purging any customizations you've made.

As for where in the language file; search the language files for iso; it'll pop up the characterset options; I think it's in the general wordlet file.

Oh yes, SEARCH is another problem. When I search within LANGUAGE EDITOR without specifying where the search is to be performed (which file), SEARCH returns a white screen.
Usually I would change a CHARACTER SET using My SQL control panel. It still looks like I have correct character set in order to display Croatian characters, but still all my new posts won't display it correctly. Yes my old posts are fine, but if I go in edit mode it won’t display Croatian characters correctly.
Is there setting within FORUM CONTROL PANEL which will allow character set change?
My shout box is actually displaying it correctly.
Thank you on your help.

PS. Maybe this is not a right section for my queries, but at the moment this was closest I could find.

Hej

Earlier I had experienced he same as you: A white blank screen when searching in language files. Its probably because you have a syntax error in one of your files. See this thread.

Arentzen, thank you. I can see that my SEARCH problem is definitely within my language file (Croatian). In my case it must be within who knows which file. So far I have not translated many words within my forum and it is going to be easier and quicker for me to replace my Croatian language file with an English and start over with my translation.
However I still have problem with Croatian characters not displaying correctly within some part of my forum and for some reason I don’t think it is in relation with my SEARCH problem.
Shout box is displaying Croatian characters correctly, but my posts not.
Anyway thank you everyone for your suggestions.

I just have discovered that writing post using HTML AND UBB code in the Markup selection my characters are displaying correctly.
Of course that option is disabled for other users.
