I'm trying to get my head round how this works.

I have a custom template (atcontact.tpl & atcontact.inc.php) so in the Language file online.php I have added: Key: atcontact | String: Viewing the contact page so it appears on the Who's Online page.

Q: If I overwrite the language files when a UBB update is released, will I have to re-enter the atcontact line?

If this is the case, does this happen to any additional "language files" for standard templates? e.g. if I incorporated a FRENCH language file and updated the UBB would it all revert back to English?

If you upload the language files that come with the new release, then yes, it will overwrite any changes. If you have the upgrade script make the changes for you however, it will only change language strings that have been changed, and add any new ones. Anything else will remain untouched.

In the Ubbthreads_v7_Upgrades.doc it states:

Quote:
Upload all files and directories from the unzipped UBB.threads™ directory to the UBB.threads™ installation directory, except for the includes, styles, and cache_builders/custom directories. You will want to upload all of the .php files within the cache_builders directory, just make sure not to upload the custom directory or files within it.

It does not mention the Language files. So, should they be uploaded or does the upgrade script make the changes without uploading the files included in the new .zip?

As long as the language files are writable, then the upgrade script will make the necessary changes. It's optional either way. Many people run stock language files, so they just upload everything.
