I am on a Windows 2000 server which apparently doesn't allow MySQL but allows for the others like MS SQL. What do I do? Do I really have to switch to a linux server to run one of these forums or what? I have asked you guys (infopop.com) to install for me and one of the things you asked for is MySQL login, password, database name....problem is that I don't have any of that. Help please....I would appreciate it.

Yes - currectly the code is ported really only for mySQL - I understand that with some work it can be made to work on Oracle but it requires a skilled php coder and an Oracle specalist to work over some of the JOINS to get them Oracle-syntax compliant.

We don't currently have any plans for a Microsoft SQL Server version, though I would love to work over the SQL queries to make that happen.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Have you tried MySQL on Win2000 unsuccessfully? There is clearly a download for it on the mysql.com website, although you must use the Cygwin libraries.

Here is a page that may help you...

I've noticed that there have been a LOT of questions about this. Sometimes it's because the poster doesn't know MySQL; sometimes it's a matter of using what you already own; in other cases (like mine) it's because the ISP/Hosting provider isn't running MySQL on their Win2k servers (and can't be convinced to do so--I tried).

But whatever the reason for the MSSQL requests, the point is that you could expand your install base by supporting other DB engines.

And as an MCSD with lots of SQL query experience, I'd love to be involved in evaluating/revising the code for UBB.threads so that it could run using MS SQL Server!

Boris,

Thanks for the offer - I know that it would be a great deal of work and right now we don't have the time available for me to undertake this as much as I would love to <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Maybe at a later date <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
