Administrator login problem
|
|
|
I've been checking the messages, butI haven't seen any other postings on this, which means that it's probably something *I'm* doing wrong, but I need some help figuring out exactly what this is.
I installed the system on Wednesday with no major problems and I was able to set up a board, set stylesheets, etc. When I logged in from home Friday, I was not able to access the Administrator menu; I got the "you must be logged in to use this feature" message which, as I read the admin/login.php file comes up when the system doesn't recognize the user's status as an Administrator or a Moderator. Instead of returning me to login, though, it returned me to my user page, which shows the Admin menu choice.
I then got the "/languages/D/login" error, decided to wipe the installation and the database and try again. (*After* I reinstalled, I discovered the phpMyAdmin cookie solution. Ah well!) However, I *still* cannot get to the Admin menu. I've checked the database (using a different browser), and there's no question that my U_Status is set as Administrator. And I don't understand why I could reach the menu at work on Wednesday, but not from home on Friday, unless it's another cookie problem.
I'm still working on it, but any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks!

If it's giving you the admin link then it definitely recognizes you as an admin in the main directory. It sounds like for some reason when trying to get into the admin directory the cookie isn't being read properly. Does this happen with any browser that you try? ------------------- Rick Baker UBBThreads developer

I've had the same problem with my laptop, The desktop at home knows me and allows me into the admin area without a problem, but last time I was on with my laptop I couldn't get past the admin/login.php I got the link and it knew it was me but not about to let me into the admin area. In fact, I just tried it again here at home, I logged out of the system from my desktop, I've got my laptop setup on my network at home so I've got dsl access with it sitting here, I logged in as me on the laptop, admin menu, and got returned to my user page as me. 5.4.6php, IE 5.5, anything else that would help??
quote:
Originally posted by Rick Baker: That is strange. The only thing that would make this not work is incorrect cookie info. What you probably need to do is run some sort of cookie management tool to check and see what cookies are being set and make sure they are being read correctly from subdirectories. ------------------- Rick Baker UBBThreads developer

Well I dunno if that helped you or not, but I grabbed cookie pal and ran through what cookies I had relating to the site, everything looked ok, but I deleted them to see, got new cookies sent to the lap top and all's well... dunno why the problem pop'd up in the first place, but another grimlin I guess...... I've found that logout.php is your friend! I bet my users are throwing fits. Thanks to my old ISP deciding that I shouldn't be able to backup my forums database (just after I had already done so), they locked out my forums subdomain. So, I moved it to a subdomain on a temporary domain name I was using for the month before my site moved over to it's new server. Then I decided it would be easier if the forums were part of the main site... then our old isp shut down our old main site, and we transferred that domain over... ...and now everything's up at the old domain. The cookies changed *3* times, though. Now do you see why they might be a bit upset? Oh well, this time I made the cookies domain wide so I could work on using the Users database and cookies for other parts of the site. Administrator, Videogame Music Archive
