Guys I am not having any luck setting up the file attachment feature on my site. I created a folder (file_attachment) on the server under public forums, I tested the directory and it says it passed, put the URL in and when I attach a file to a post and try to open it I get a "webpage cannot be displayed" screen, what am I doing wrong?

Does the actual upload path match with the "public" path you reach your files with.

maybe that is where I screwed it up, I just went to public_HTML and created a new folder (files_attachments) and tested the directory. I did not do anything else. Do I need to do something else in order to get it to work?

In your feature settings > attachments you can set both a Attachment Storage Directory and a Full URL to Attachment Storage Directory, both settings should match and point to the same directory. The first one the actual path on your webserver, the 2nd one the url where you can reach this path.

First line is your server path:

Attachment Storage Directory: /home/myserver/public_html/ubbthreads/myattachments

Second is your URL:

Full URL to Attachment Storage Directory: http://www.mywebsite.com/ubbthreads/myattachments

The myattachments folder on the server should be CHMOD 777

Yeah, I'd put the /attachments directory inside the /threads directory

Once you enter the path info there should be a TEST button. That should say it was successful - then use FTP to verify that a file was placed there. If it errors then something still wrong like either path or permissions.

the test shows that everything is working, I don't know anything about using FTP to verify, but if that means going to my server after I attach something and seeing if it is there, I have tried that and nothing is showing up there......Blake

Well having tried all of the suggestions already and it's still not working, unless someone else comes up with another possible solution I would recommend that you open a ticket with support so that they can log onto your site and check things out to see what's going on.

So, have you not accessed the server to set permissions for that directory to 777?

If the test shows ok, and you've looked and it's not in the attachments directory after uploading, also check the /tmp directory. That is the temporary hold spot for attachments. See if it's there, and make sure the perms on that folder are set to 777 as well.

I suggest you open a support ticket for this, I think we got as for as getting you every normal place to look at for trouble shooting problems like this.

Somebody really needs to take a look at your actual setup and configuration.

On the upper left side of the forum you find an island with a link to support options in it.

If you're having problems locating your license number you can either go to the members area and request it to be emailed to you or email Groupee sales (sales@groupee.com I believe)

Ok guys I am tryng this again, I have submitted a ticket to support to see if they can help me. If anyone would not care to explain in very 3rd grade words the complete process I would like to try this again.

I realize that I need to do the stuff in the feature settings / attachments thing, but what I need to know is where do I set that up on my server.

Do I go to public_html and gallery or forums?

Stuff like that, I appreciate any help........Blake
