after ugrading to 6.3, the config section in admin shows:

The following variables are unknown to the base UBB.threads package, but might be used by installed hacks or modifications to the program
$config['fifth_mail'] = '';

I don't have any hacks or modifications .. what is this ??

Leave that there. That's an extra variable that some people need to set to "1" if they are having trouble sending emails through threads. It activates the sending of the fifth parameter in php's mail() function. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

If email is working for you - you can leave it set to no value.

this happened to me, too, when I upgraded...I put in a support ticket on it, asking if this could be turn out to be a problem for me in the future (I'm just starting a new board), but I didn't ever get an answer to this part of my ticket.

Does this appear in eerybody's configuration when they upgrade? If it's frequent, maybe there should be a note in the documentation about it, so people don't wste time worrying about it!

Yes, it's part of 6.3.

The variable is called in every threads script which sends email.

The area that it appears in is an area where config options can be added if they are needed for certain situations.

Most people won't need this - so it didn't warrant a regular on/off type setting - as people might be inclined to adjust it and then email wouldn't work.

The description of that area probably should be tweaked a bit, as it is misleading saying that it's "unknown".

Certain people on certain servers will need to activate this option for email functions to work.

It won't let you remove it, because it'll recreate it each time the config file is generated - but as general practice - I wouldn't go around deleting things from a config file on a working board. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />
