OK, I screwed up a bit during the upgrade and forgot to add the swedish language package into the UBB.threads v7.3 install before doing the upgrade. So now I'm missing a lot of the language strings.

Is there a script to add missing strings or rerun parts of the language string upgrades?

Or should I just start over from scratch and re-translate or copy old strings where necessary?

For this I use a compare tool like beyondcompare from scootersoft. Then I compare the original english to my language and replace missing strings with english strings.
The next step is to compare all string contain placeholders.
In the final step I go there to translate the english strings to my language.

Sounds like a hassle... I think I'll automate it with a script. =]

there's no script, except a reupgrade (which you can do on a seperate test install).

But in /install there is file called language_changes.txt that help you do it manually.

using beyondcompare is much easier than an automated script.. believe me, i'm the guy that thinks about writing automated stuff if i repeat 4 keystrokes laugh

so feel free to write you script, but the cost/benefit ratio (imho) ain't worth it..

This is why I think eventually I'll store all default language strings in the database, and then they'll spit out text files like we have now.

This way you'll always be able to reset/add the default strings back to certain language files or all of them.

That would be a great option. It would make things a lot easier.

You also rather spend a day automating stuff instead of spending 10 minutes doing hard labor laugh

Let's shake hands wink
