Dear UBB Community,

We just upgraded an old UBB classic forum to 7.3. All our forums permissions are set to allow guests to see and read the forums but not post new topics or replies and yet occasionally we'll get anonymous posts appearing.

Here is an example
http://www.ironycentral.com/forum/ubbthr...tions#Post98810

Is this a potential bug or am I missing something?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Was there ever a follow up to this?

Looks like this one fell through the cracks. But it sounds like the issue that is reported once in a while, where the post is actually made by a logged in user, but comes across as anonymous that we have yet to figure out.

I think there was some speculation on it coming from posting with multiple tabs open on the forums, but I've done everything possible to try and duplicate this and have never been able to.

We found a previous user with this problem. Clearing cookies fixed it.

Would it be possible to have a function where everyone's cookies can be wiped by admin or force them to log out and back in for example?

We had a banned user who was able to post to our forum with a user ID of "anonymous" and it shows "unregistered" beside that ID on the post. We are certain it was the banned user who did this because of the content of the post. I'm wondering if they have exploited a weakness in the software somewhere? Is there a way a user can unregister an account after creating it?

I think the default used the banned names filter to ban the name Anonymous from the board I can't remember if it was default or if I actually stuck it in there with other names I thought would be inappropriate. I think that was a work around we did in 7.1 I will check it in 7.3 to see if it transferred over. If so that may be a temp fix (if it isn't set there by default anyway.)

I have posted about this back on Apr 29 2008 that in 7.2.2 you were able to log out then still have full access to the message board and post as Anonymous any where you would normally have permissions to post or see while using the Fire Fox Web Browser.

It appears that the even though you are logged out you still have full permissions as if you were logged in and can post and reply. This is a cookie issue mainly in Fire Fox.

*nods* ahhh now I see what you are saying. So banning someone should expire the cookies as part of the ban? Is that how it would work?
