That route works as well, the route mentioned here is the "quickest"/"most safe" way in my opinion, and is that which Rick has everyone do... A lot of people will get quite lost with your route ;\)

I would be lost with the first one \:\)

My board utilizes a lot of hacks. It saves a lot of time re-hacking files that were not changed in the first place.

True, but keep in mind that most people hardly grasp how to run their own site, let alone modify basecode or install hacks :x...

I would also recommend a backup of both your files and your database prior to any upgrade - better to be safe than sorry \:\)

(of course the upgrade should go fine, but every webhost is different)

When backing up the MySQl table is the control panel option a sufficient tool for full restoration.
The reason I ask is that MYSQl is new to me and my host has me on a Windows2003 box.
With 7.2 coming out of beta I want to upgrade but I have not been able to educate myself on MySQl well enough yet to feel comfortable. using the tools provided by my host

You would want to backup the whole database not just a table.

That is my question. In the UBB control panel if I select the All Tables option it creates a file for each table in the backup directory. Is that the same as backing up the whole database to restore UBB?
Or do I need to use something else.
I believe my host is providing PHPADMIN ? but I have not been through all the docs yet.

The backup tool within the UBB.threads control panel is kind of the last resort you'd want to use. It's the slowest method to do a backup and is there for those cases that there is no other method available. It works, but it's pretty slow.

If your host is providing phpadmin, then that would definitely be a better option.

Even if they don't have phpAdmin they must have another tool like it within the Main Website Control Panel. The same place you would have been when you created the original database.

Either there or another location within the Website Control Panel (not the UBB control panel) and find one that does database backup. You should also find one that backs up the entire Website which you should run once in a while as your host provider may not be backing up your data, often it's up to you.
