is it possible to install a hit counter for the forum to see how many people have visted the forum on one day

Well, I guess the simple answer is - just try it smile

I can't imagine it would present too much of a problem.

Just try dropping the code in something like "footer.tpl" and see how you get on smile

Yes it is. I dropped in a counter from sitemeter.com The code worked perfectly and I receive an email every month with my stats as well. Referral links, page views, etc. Pretty neat stuff.

I run a counter which I installed and run from it's own directory on my server. I placed the code for it in my PHP footer that I use for my entire web site AS WELL AS in the footer that you can edit within the UBB Threads control panel. Works flawlessly.
